After an eight-hour standoff with police in California, three female hostages and a gunman are dead; two employees and one clinical psychologist.

Albert Wong, a 36-year-old army veteran attacked three workers from The Pathway Home in Napa Valley. California police confirmed Wong snuck into the home on Friday. He took three women hostage, killing them during the standoff. He then turned the gun on himself, taking his life.

Wong was a former patient at The Pathway Home. He was being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, some physical ailments and anger issues.

Previously, Wong threatened an employee, after which he was removed from the home and did not receive counselling services. Police believe his removal was the motivation behind his attack.

The Pathway Home helps military veterans integrate back into civilian life. Wong served in Afghanistan in 2013.

Police are still searching for a motive behind the attack.
