Toronto has no food truck that specializes in vegetarian food and vegan meals. Local and raw food specialization restaurants are becoming more popular around the city.

The other big alternative diet, and the fastest growing is the Gluten-free movement. Shontelle Pinch from the provocatively-named “Gourmet Bitches” food truck said that almost all their food is gluten-free as they use rice flour in their batter.

“In Hamilton, the process is not difficult. If you have all of your paperwork, you can usually get a permit the next day,” Thomson said. “Some cities just don’t want food trucks.”

This may have something to do with the bylaw restrictions in other cities that aren’t a problem in Hamilton.
