Following their loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday, the Toronto Raptors headed to New Orleans on Monday night to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, New Orleans was hungrier for a win.
The Raps started off strong during the first two quarters, as they led by 12 at the half. During the third quarter, the Raps were up 62-49 but New Orleans made a comeback as they scored 17 points to the Raptors’ 8 over the next six minutes.
Kyle Lowry scored 22 points for the Raptors, and Jonas Valanciunas netted 17 of which 14 were rebounds, but even that was not enough to beat the Pelicans. Luke Babbit took 18 points and 8 rebounds for the Pelicans.
Norris Cole, a new addition to the Pelicans, scored 15 points for them, and Omar Asik put up 14 points with 11 rebounds.
The game came down to the wire with the Pelicans up by 3 in the last few seconds and Lowry taking a 3 point shot as the clock came down to 0. But it was just not to be as the shot went slightly wide.
The final score was Pelicans 100 to the Raptors’ 97.
