Canadian designers Dsquared2 has come under fire for claiming their 2015-2016 collection was inspired by “Canadian Indian tribes” and dubbing the collection #Dsquaw.

On their website, Dsquare2 describes the collection as “The enchantment of Canadian Indian tribes.”

The word ‘squaw’ comes from the Algonquin words for woman. An Ojibwa language expert, Patricia Ningewance told the CBC “Its pronunciation was corrupt to ‘squaw’ and its preset negative connotation resulted.”

Dean and Dan Caten, the brothers behind Dsquared2 have since removed all references to #Dsquaw from their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
