Toronto FC won its season opener 3-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
Jozy Altidore scored twice for his new team on his debut, CBC reports. MLS veteran Robbie Findley also scored a goal for Toronto, giving TFC a 2-1 lead near the hour mark in the second half.
Whitecaps newcomer, Uruguayan Octavio Rivero scored an early goal for Vancouver, reports the Toronto Star, but Toronto caught up in the end.
TSN reports Vancouver fans held up banners saying “TFC like KFC – The original recipe for disaster.”
Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney called Altidore a monster in an interview with reporters, saying, “for anyone that questioned whether he could score goals, I think he proved something today that he’s going to be a handful.”
Toronto is playing seven games on the road to start off the season due to stadium renovations at BMO Field. Their first game at home is on May 10th when they take on the Houston Dynamo led by new English manager, Owen Coyle.
They will be playing against the Columbus Crew March 14.
