Humber’s Comedy Program second year students will be making people laugh tonight as they kick off their annual showcase.

The showcase will be at Yuk Yuk’s at 224 Richmond Street in Toronto. Tickets cost $4.00.

Program assistant Linda Ellis says that the show will run until about 9:30pm on each night.

The program coordinator Andrew Clark says that the “showcase is the final assignment for the standup comedy class.”

There will be two dates of acts, today and April 5th, both beginning at 7:30pm.

“Roughly 22 students will go up each night I believe. It will start at 7:30pm and go to 9:30pm,” says Ellis.

This showcase has been going on for at least 10 years.

“It’s also used to pick the top 7 comedians who perform at May 9 Industry show at Second City,” says Clark.

Second City is where Humber hosts their annual Industry show, which debuts the 7 acts that were chosen from the stand-up showcase.

Second City is a very well-known comedy theatre that has locations in Chicago, Toronto, and Hollywood. Famous comedians like Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Mike Myers have all performed on Toronto’s Second City stage.
