After last night’s Grammy awards, Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara wins best new artist. Fans took to Twitter with their mixed reactions.
Fans of SZA and Khalid are upset because Alessia was nominated for Best New Artist in the 2016 BET Awards and that Alessia’s single “Here” became mainstream in 2015.
During Alessia’s acceptance speech she said: “You think I’d have the speech thing down, but I don’t.” Hinting at the fact that she has been nominated for this in the past.
Alessia was one of the only ten women that won an award. Despite the #Metoo championing of gender pay equality at the Golden Globes, the hashtag #GrammysSoMale began to trend on Twitter because more men than women won awards.
