After debates over extensions, and heated arguments over things like gender equality and pay, there’s no doubt that the PC leadership race has been a rocky road.
Voting is closed for PC leadership today (Friday, March 9), but many were saying they were unable to vote, or that voting shouldn’t have taken place yet. With all this chaos, PC party members have been vocal about their opposition to the vote happening today. Out of 190,000 PC party officials who could vote, only 71,000 of them got their PIN to complete the process, and of those, only 64,053 have voted. This number barely represents a third of all PC party members.
This broken system is fuel for the fire to extend the vote by a week. One of the most vocal advocates for this cause was Doug Ford Jr., who says that the chaos represents corruption. He said he believes that “VIP Insiders” who support Christine Elliot were the few who were given their voting PINS.
“What games are being played here?” Ford Jr. asked.
As of right now, the election looks to be a tie-up between Ford Jr. and Elliot. The legal injunction to extend is still going through, so this same rocky road may ride on for a little bit longer.
