Etobicoke’s own Jennifer “JJ” Hawkrigg was named Athlete of the Month by the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame.
The top-30 snowboarder has qualified for the World Championships in Park City, Utah and hopes to represent Canada in the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Her athleticism comes from her family–her grandfather still holds a Canadian track & field record and played football for the Ti-Cats. Her father coached the Humber Valley Sharks hockey team to a provincial title. And her brother plays hockey in Hartford, Connecticut where he was named 2 time all-American and earned a national championship.
The Etobicoke native attends Ryerson University for business and is described by her peers as an Olympic caliber athlete.
