A summit organized by the Catholic Church concluded with Pope Francis taking responsibility for more sexual abuse cases.

For four days, the Vatican brought in victims across the world and heard their personal stories of abuse, the Associated Press reports.

By the end, Pope Francis made an eight-point promise for preventing sexual assault and to hold future abusers accountable for their actions.

CBC found that over 6,000 clerics were accused of sex abuse dating back to the 1950s. The findings were uncovered by The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2017.

The Pope also said existing abusers will face “the wrath of God”.

He also claims pornography found online and sexual tourism were part of the bigger issue of why priests become abusers, another Associated Press story reported.
