The 16-0 Humber Hawks men’s basketball team are back on the home court tonight against Niagara Knights.

In their first meeting vs. Niagara On Nov. 1, Humber needed a big second half to capture the win. The Hawks outscored the Knights 49-32 over the final 20 minutes to win, 94-81. Hawks freshman Kevin Otoo finished with a team-high 20 points in the win, while Hawks Jaylan Morgan added 14 points of his own.

Hawks players Jordon Francis and Fozi Mohamoud talked about what they need to do to keep the streak alive and not repeat last meetings slow start.

“I think we need to start the game off strong with high energy and defensive intensity. Normally our defense leads to offense, and we build from it, so if we do that, and stay consistent for the entire game, that will put us in the best situation to be successful,” said star Hawks sophomore guard Francis.

“When we come out and punch teams first were hard to beat, especially at home. As long as we deliver the first hit from the jump I think we’ll be fine,” said Hawks sophomore point guard Mohamoud. Mohamoud is leading the team with 36 triples this season, the fifth-most in program history.

Humber is 16-0; 1st in the OCAA and 2nd in the CCAA. Niagara Knights are 4th in the west and 12th in the CCAA.  With four games remaining in the regular season, Humber looks to finish strong and keep the perfect regular season alive.

Over the past weekend, the Hawk traveled to Sault Ste. Marie and swept a two-game series vs. Sault College Cougars 130-55 and 129-58. One hundred thirty points were the most points scored in a game for Humber since 1991. Humber is averaging 101.6 PPG and is currently on pace to finish the year as the highest scoring offense in program history.

With 18 points over the weekend against Sault, senior Curwin Elvis continues to move up Humber’s all-time scoring list.

In the final three games, Hawks travel to Ancaster to play Redeemer Royals on Feb. 9th, back home vs. Mohawk Mountaineers on Feb. 13th, and travel to Sheridan Bruins for the regular season finale on Feb. 15th.

The game will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network at 8 p.m.
