The latest superhero movie Captain Marvel collected $455 million dollars on its opening weekend.

The film starring Brie Larson is now the second biggest worldwide premiere of a superhero movie following Avengers: Infinity War.

Featuring a female lead, industry analysts say the film proves female superheroes can succeed at the box office.

“Female superhero films of the past like ‘Catwoman’ and ‘Elektra’ were bad films — that’s all we have to say about them. You look at ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Captain Marvel,’ they are good films put together by strong creative teams. That’s the difference,” Jeff Bock, a box office analyst with Exhibitor Relations, told Variety.

Captain Marvel does not stand alone in the universe since it has a connection with Avengers: Infinity War, and its follow-up film Avengers: Endgame, which premieres on Apr. 26.
