Rapper Dr Dre announced on Instagram that his daughter Truly Young got accepted into the University of Southern California.
Dre’s post cracked a joke referencing the families caught up in the USC bribery scandal. He said in the post, “my daughter got accepted into USC all on her own, no jail time!”
However, in 2013 Dre and Jimmy Lovine donated $70 million dollars towards creating a new institution. The institution is known as Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
Though Dre’s donation was legal, it drew comparisons to recent allegations against actor Lori Loughlim and husband Mossimo Giannulli. Loughlim and Giannulli were accused of bribing people $500,000 to gain their daughters acceptance to the college.
Nine athletic coaches and 33 parents among those charged in the USC investigation. Some parents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars — in one case, as much as $6.5 million — to guarantee their children’s admission, officials said.
