Marvel film director James Gunn is back as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn was removed from production for making inappropriate comments on Twitter more than a decade ago.

Since his firing in July 2018, Gunn received split opinions from actors and the online community.

Cast members such as Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista voiced their support for Gunn during the controversy and fans said he was irreplaceable for the Guardians series.

Gunn sparked outrage for tweets joking about rape and pedophilia. His comments were made public by conservative news outlet The Daily Caller, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Thor Ragnarok director Taika Watiti was set to replace him as director.

Disney reportedly met with Gunn a few times before the decision was made to reinstate him.

On Twitter, Gunn expressed his gratitude to supporters who stayed by him and was welcomed back by his fellow Marvel crew.
