Skedline’s April live-music roundup

Now that spring is finally beginning to show its true colours, it’s the perfect time to head out and see some live music in the city. Skedline brings you event listings for 10 of the most popular venues in Toronto, along with some of our most anticipated shows.

XXYYXX (April 3, The Hoxton)

Electronic musician and record producer Marcel Everett, better known as XXYYXX, has already made a name for himself in the industry, despite the fact that he is only 19 years old. His last album, Mystify, dropped in 2012, but since then, Everett has been remixing songs for other artists, and even worked on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto V.  He kicks off his North American Spring Run tour at The Hoxton in Toronto.

OK Go (April 7, The Phoenix Concert Theatre)

Alternative rock band, OK Go, famous for its viral music videos, stop at the Phoenix this month on the second leg of its international spring tour.  The band’s latest release, Hungry Ghosts, was released last October.

Enter Shikari (April 8, Mod Club Theatre)

This UK electronicore band has been around since 2003, boasting four studio albums and 26 music videos over the course of its career. Enter Shikari stops at the Mod Club Theatre with Stray From The Path on The Mindsweep Tour, following the release of the newest album, The Mindsweep.

mewithoutYou (April 13, Lee’s Palace)

Fans of Fueled by Ramen’s Forgive Durden might recognize Aaron Weiss, singer of indie rock band mewithoutYou, who did the narration on the band’s album Razia’s Shadow: A Musical. More recently, mewithoutYou cut ties with Tooth and Nail Records, and announced it will be releasing its sixth album with Boston-based Run For Cover Records this summer. The band will be performing at Lee’s with Dr. Dog on the 13th.

The Devil Wears Prada (April 13, The Danforth Music Hall)

The Devil Wears Prada plays on the same night at The Danforth Music Hall if you like your music a little bit heavier. The Christian melodic metalcore band celebrates five years since the release of its Zombie EP with the Zombie 5 Tour, featuring special guests Born of Osiris, The Word Alive, and SECRETS.

Earl Sweatshirt (April 14, The Opera House)

Hip hop superstar Earl Sweatshirt stops at The Opera House on the 14th, the same day his surprise second album I Don’t Like S**t, I Don’t Go Outside: An Album By Earl Sweatshirt hits stores. Earl is known for his membership in the collective Odd Future, which also includes rapper Tyler, The Creator, singer Frank Ocean, and various other rappers, groups, and non-musical members.

Protest the Hero (April 15-17, Hard Luck Bar)

Hailing from Whitby, this progressive metal band plays close to home this month. Protest the Hero performs at Hard Luck for three days this month before continuing with four dates in South Africa. The band’s last album, Volition, was funded completely by fans through an Indiegogo campaign in 2013.

Die Mannequin (April 18, Horseshoe Tavern)

Local alternative rock band Die Mannequin plays in its hometown this month with Secret Broadcast and Savanah. The female-fronted band gained fame with its 2009 song Bad Medicine, and recently released its fifth album, Neon Zero.

Hawthorne Heights (April 18, The Rockpile West)

Hawthorne Heights celebrates the 2004 release of its first album with its neighbours to the north this month. The American post-hardcore band spends seven nights in the country on The Silence in Black and White 10 Year Anniversary Canadian Tour, making a stop at The Rockpile in Etobicoke.

OneRepublic (April 24, The Air Canada Centre)

Pop-rock band OneRepublic continues its worldwide Native tour with a Toronto date at the ACC this month. The band will play in Canada this month, the head over to eastern Europe for the next leg of the tour.
