Massey Hall will be receiving a hefty renovation in the coming years.
The performing arts theatre in Toronto will undergo a $135 million upgrade over the next seven years to expand the auditorium and other features. The renovation announcement was initially made in April 2013.
Adding a backstage and loading dock will be done during the first wave of changes to the 120-year old venue. The second phase, which is scheduled to start in 2019, will be devoted to interior and exterior remodelling.
Owners are saying that the hall could close down for a couple years due to the revitalization.
The Government of Canada is funding $16 million of the renovation in addition to the TD Bank Group and RBC, who are also donating to the project that is set to be completed in 2021.
