The Duke Blue Devils are the national men’s basketball champions after beating the Wisconsin Badgers last night 68-63 in Indianapolis.
This is Duke’s fifth ever NCAA March Madness tournament win. Freshman point guard Tyrus Jones led the team with 23 points and five rebounds, while centre Jahlil Okafor poured in another 10 points and grabbed three more rebounds.
Wisconsin Badger senior Frank Kaminsky carried his squad, scoring 21 points and putting up 12 rebounds in the loss. This was Wisconsin’s first appearance in an NCAA national final in over 70 years – their last final game was in 1941, the only time the Badgers won the tournament.
Duke’s coach Mike Krzyzewski moved past Adolph Rupp for second place in for all-time career for all-time NCAA championship title wins.
Next year’s March Madness championship game will be held at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on April 4.
