Drake leads the pack with a total of 13 nominations, while Post Malone is close behind with 12. Ariana Grande and Cardi B both hold 10 nominations. Last year’s top female and male artists Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran have both been re-nominated for the prize.

While Taylor Swift was the only female nominee for top artist last year, that number has increased to three this year, outweighing the male nominees.

Country music world still dominated by men

The Academy of Country Music Awards is the next upcoming awards show and it’s time to look a little closer at its history of nominees and winners.

Entertainer, album, and song of the year are the biggest awards that aren’t separated by gender.

Last year’s entertainer of the year Jason Aldean has been re-nominated for his fourth consecutive award in the category. 2018 nominees Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, and Chris Stapleton are also up for the prize again. The only difference in the category this year is Kenny Chesney replacing Garth Brooks as a new nominee. All of them are men.

The last female to be nominated for this award was Carrie Underwood in 2017, and the last female winner was Taylor Swift in 2012. Since Swift’s win, there have only been seven total female nominations in this category, all shared between Swift, Underwood, and Miranda Lambert.

Kacey Musgraves is the only female to be nominated for album of the year in 2019. Miranda Lambert was the last woman to take home the award in 2017.

As for song of the year, Kacey Musgraves is again the only solo female artist up for the win, with Bebe Rexha also looking to take home the award for her track with Florida Georgia Line. Miranda Lambert won last year as the only female nominee.
