The Toronto Maple Leafs lost against the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Tuesday night. Pittsburgh star forward Sidney Crosby had a goal and four assists to lead the way.
With the win, the Penguins moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry stopped 34 shots while picking up his 13th win in his last 17 games while Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen stopped 19 shots for, and has allowed 13 goals in his last three starts.
The Maple Leafs lost for the third time in four games, and have just three wins in their last nine. The Leafs and Penguins will go at it once again on Thursday in the second of their home and home series taking place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Montreal Canadians lost to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. Detroit forward Andreas Athanasiou scored his second goal with less than 6 minutes left in the game to cap Detroit’s three-goal third period.
With the win, the Red Wings swept the 4-game season series between the two teams. Montreal meanwhile, have lost five straight for the third time this season.
Montreal will look to find their winning ways in Washington against the Capitals on Thursday.
The Winnipeg Jets beat the Los Angeles Kings 6-3 on Tuesday night. Winnipeg forward Blake Wheeler had two goals and added an assist in Wheelers 700th game with the club.
Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and two assists and Patrik Laine scored a goal into an empty net and added one assist. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 shots for the Jets, who went 4-2-0 on a six-game homestand.
The Jets will now start a 4 game road trip in Ottawa on Thursday.
The Ottawa Senators beat the Buffalo Sabres 7-4 on Tuesday night. Ottawa forwards Artem Anisimov and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each had two goals for the Senators to spearhead the win.
Prior to the game Phillips’ No. 4 was raised to the rafters making him just the second modern day Senators player to be honored, joining Daniel Alfredsson.
Phillips was Ottawa’s first player to play his entire career in a Senators uniform. He holds the franchise record for games played with the team. Ottawa will host the Winnipeg Jets in their next game on Thursday.
