The Canadian Football League( CFL) and the U.S.-based XFL have said they are exploring opportunities for the leagues to “collaborate, innovate, and grow the game of football.”

This comes after the CFL reported losses in 2020 due to a canceled season, as per the Canadian Press, and the XFL was saved from bankruptcy by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital.

The CFL and XFL have significantly different rules and brands.

The CFL has been around for decades and has long-established fanbases. The XFL has only played one full season.

Experts say this surprising announcement will have a definite effect on Canadian football.
