Students attending schools in Toronto will be taking all of heir classes online as of today under an order from the city’s top doctor, CP24 reports.

Toronto medical officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa made the order yesterday. The public health unit says the new COVID-19 variants pose a greater risk of hospitalization and death and that the measure is necessary.

Classes in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph are also moving online and Peel Region made classes virtual yesterday.

The measure will be reassessed depending on the COVID-19 situation at the end of spring break next week, the health units say.

However, the province maintains schools are safe and should remain open for the students’ well-being.
