Students braved the cold weather to attend the Humber Ignite Winter Pool Tournament at Humber’s Lakeshore and North campuses yesterday. The tournament was set up by Ignite as a way to give students a chance to unwind during the stressful first weeks back at school.

The event took place in the both the KX101 room at North campus and in the K building games room at Lakeshore. The teams were competing for a chance to win prizes, which included Leafs and Raptors tickets for the first-place team and Best Buy gift cards for the second and third place teams.

“We had 32 students participate (16 at North campus and 16 at Lakeshore campus) which is the maximum number of students able to participate, which is a success!” said Ignite student Services Coordinator Kimberly Daniels. “Students enjoy showcasing their skills and competing for prizes.”

The high turnout of the event has Ignite looking to replicate the success with other events planned for later in the semester for students to participate in. They also plan to hold tournaments for a wide variety of games.

“We will be hosting a FIFA Tournament in March and another pool tournament in April.” said Daniels.

Students agree that the events are a good diversion from the stress of the semester and are more than willing to participate in the other events Ignite holds in the future.

“I think it’s a great idea!” said first year student Dan Tabanor. “I love pool, so I’ll probably go the next one if I can get a team together, especially if the prizes are really good.”
