The Ontario Progressive Conservatives have removed a GIF of Canadian film star Ryan Gosling from a message they sent to their supporters.
The image of Gosling saying “don’t go” appeared when recipients clicked “no” to the fundraising message that asked them whether or not they still supported Premier Doug Ford.
Some experts are saying that use of the image may violate copyright law since the party was using Gosling’s likeness in an attempt to raise money.
“You can’t just use somebody’s likeness for any sort of purpose without suffering legal consequences,” said McGill University law professor Allen Mendelsohn when speaking to the Canadian Press. “Ryan Gosling and his representation would presumably not be happy to be used in this manner.”
The PC party hasn’t yet mentioned their reasons behind removing the GIF.
