Canada is planning on welcoming over 430,000 new immigrants each year, with a new budget of over $428.9 million, which is going to be given in a period of five years. This budget was released for better processing time for applicants, as well as some new enhanced features for tracking and providing Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with enough manpower to clear the backlog of applications, which is increasing day by day. According to Sean Fraser in a press conference held on January 31, 2022, IRCC has to finalize 147,000 applications by April 2022, when they have to introduce the newly enhanced processing tracking tool.

Amidst the war between Ukraine and Russia, Canada also introduced ways for Ukrainians to come and reside in Canada as a worker or as a student. Under “CUAET,” Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel, Canada has allowed Ukrainians to come to Canada on temporary visitor visas and can go back when it’s safe to do so.

What concerns those who came here as students and essential workers is how they are going to get permanent residency. 1.8 million applications were in backlog in December with a growth of 21,000 more applications in mere two months. People across the globe as well in Canada are waiting for either their visas or their parents so that they can meet them physically after Covid-19

Backlogs are also being reduced but as significantly as they are growing.

So, the real question is: Are new enhanced features of the website going to help those who wait for their permanent residency or should they leave Canada and come back as a student?
