Though Toronto City Councillors collectively agree that the housing crisis is a worsening issue throughout the city, there’s pushback from some city councillors towards putting the proper funding together to address the situation throughout their wards. According to Ward 4 Toronto City Councillor Gord Perks, the issue of affordable housing within the city splits Toronto City Council as some council members are willing to raise the capital to manage the situation, while others aren’t.

Ward 14 City Councillor Paula Fletcher is among the larger group of councillors that are passionate about the issue of affordable housing. Councillor Fletcher is the first to break the proverbial glass ceiling concerning Toronto’s housing crisis, with the Don Summerville mixed housing development on Queen Street.

With that in mind, Councillor Fletcher continues to advocate for affordable housing projects throughout her ward. Councillor Fletcher is also in the process of making Toronto’s waterfront affordable by working with developers to turn condos into mixed development complexes.
