Humber Lakeshore’s Athletic and Recreation Program offers an opportunity to unwind and stay active through its drop-in sports initiative. The program, held at the end of each day, in the main gymnasium features a variety of sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball and more.

Students with a valid ID can participate, engaging in a different sport each day of the week.

The primary goal is to provide an avenue for students to relax, socialize, and maintain physical fitness amidst their academic pursuits.

Rashmi Ashok, a former badminton player in her home country, India, actively participates in the Monday and Friday badminton sessions. For Ashok, the drop-in sports program is more than mere physical activity — it serves as a means to escape the demands of academic life

“It’s so much fun to just forget and play,” Ashok said.

Beyond the physical benefits, she highlighted that the program offers an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for badminton.

Humber Lakeshore Athletics encourages students of all skill levels to join the drop-in sports sessions, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can participate and compete against their peers.

The Main Gymnasium at the Lakeshore campus serves as the battleground for these friendly matches throughout the school year.

Ceilidh Pate, an attendee from Humber Athletics said, “Everyone is very excited to go every week. It’s almost like a mini-community.”

“The energy is consistently high and exciting, it can occasionally lead to disagreements.”

According to the program’s website, the drop-in sports initiative is a success, attracting students from various disciplines and backgrounds. It not only promotes physical well-being but also contributes to a sense of community on campus. As students navigate the demands of academia, Humber Lakeshore’s Athletic and Recreation Program stands out as a beacon of balance and enjoyment.
