Networking is a major aspect for anyone getting into their careers. This is why Humber College’s Public Relations program is having a conference to help people out.

The conference happens every year around the same time. This year’s theme is “Retrospection: PR that made us, campaigns that changed us.” Molly Syms-Wilson, this year’s conference chair, says, “for us we felt the word Retrospection, which means the action of looking back on or reviewing past events or situations, and the tagline that follows really encapsulated our hopes and goals for the conference.”

The conference is meant to highlight the evolution of public relations. There will be a panel with current professionals in the field to provide insight on the ongoing changes in the industry and how the changes impacted the practices and effectiveness of public relations.

“Our list of panelists includes vice presidents and a CEO of some of the top public relations agencies,” says Syms-Wilson

Syms-Wilson says participants will be able to reflect and demonstrate their practices through a workshop activity after the panel is over.

Maria Victoria Mendoza, a Humber College Public Relations student, says she’s looking forward to the conference as she has never attended a conference before. She’s interested in learning from those who attend and share their experience and expertise. “I’m expecting to make connections with PR practitioners as I have never been exposed to a place where professionals of the industry are. I’m excited to learn and network,” she says.

The conference is open to anyone who has any interest or affiliation with the public relations industry or media. It’s also open to people outside of the college.

The conference is being held today, November 23, from 12 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. in the G building at the Lakeshore campus of Humber College.
